Tyler's Story

Tyler
Age 12
Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center
Liver Transplant

At 10 years old, Tyler needed a liver transplant due to a series of liver problems that began at age 6. A donor was found and, ironically for this active sports fan, surgery was scheduled for the same day as the hospital’s Go the Distance walk and family fun day.

As the surgery center prepared for his transplant, and with his doctors’ permission, Tyler walked in support of the hospital caring for him. His doctors and nurses were cheering him on as he crossed the finish line, ready to help Tyler begin the next journey—an improved life with a new liver.

The surgery was a success and Tyler’s bravery and positive attitude aided him through recovery. Today, he’s living life with enthusiasm and vibrancy. Tyler and his family continue to "Go the Distance" by spreading the message that children’s hospitals need community support.
